Spotlight
A federal trial challenging Illinois’ assault weapons ban began on September 16, 2024, in East St. Louis. Gun store owner Scott Pulaski testified that the Protect Illinois Communities Act significantly impacted his business and customers’ ability to purchase firearms for lawful purposes. The plaintiffs argue the law violates the Second Amendment, citing the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision.
The state contends that weapons primarily designed for military use are not constitutionally protected. However, a retired Marine Corps expert Jeff Eby testified that the banned guns differ from military weapons, as they are only semiautomatic and not suitable for combat.
Pro-gun advocates emphasize that the ban unnecessarily restricts access to commonly used firearms, hindering the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves.

FPC Petitions Supreme Court on Second Amendment Injury
Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) has filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court to address a circuit split. The petition stems from two FPC cases challenging Delaware’s bans on “assault weapons” and “large-capacity” magazines, arguing that the Third Circuit’s opinion treating Second Amendment rights differently from First Amendment rights for injunctive relief contradicts the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision.
