The U.S. Supreme Court vacated a decision that allowed 18- to 20-year-olds to carry firearms during emergencies in Pennsylvania. The Court directed the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider its ruling in light of the June 2024 decision clarifying standards for constitutional firearms regulations. This action maintains Pennsylvania’s ban on young adults carrying guns during declared states of emergency.

The case, brought by the Second Amendment Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition, challenges state restrictions on youth firearm possession. Adam Kraut, executive director of the Second Amendment Foundation, stated, “SAF will continue to do the necessary work required to restore the right to keep and bear arms for these 18-20-year-olds.”

Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Michelle Henry welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision, affirming her office’s commitment to defending the state’s “common sense gun laws.
