Spotlight
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has taken a stand for Second Amendment rights by signing the Firearm Purchaser’s Privacy Act into law. This legislation, backed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), safeguards the financial privacy of law-abiding gun owners by prohibiting special merchant codes for firearm purchases.
Jake McGuigan of the NSSF praised Governor Sununu’s action, stressing that Americans shouldn’t fear government watchlists for exercising constitutional rights. New Hampshire joins 16 other states in enacting such protections, forming a coalition against Second Amendment encroachment.
The Act serves as a crucial safeguard against potential abuses, like the recent revelation of the US Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network violating Fourth Amendment rights by collecting gun buyers’ credit card histories without cause.
The CA Excise Tax is Now In Effect
As of July 1, 2024, California has implemented an 11% excise tax on firearms, parts, and ammunition sales, in addition to the existing 6% sales tax. This presents a significant challenge for California FFLs, who must now manage complex quarterly state payments.
The good news is that Trident 1’s advanced POS system is ready to help. Our updated software automates tax calculations and generates detailed reports, ensuring smooth compliance with these new regulations.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) announced plans to challenge Massachusetts’ new gun law, signed by Governor Maura Healey. The bill aims to combat ghost guns, expand gun seizure laws, and restrict carrying firearms in certain public areas. The NRA described the legislation as “one of the most extreme gun control bills in the country.”
Florida Department of Law Enforcement Faces Legal Defeat
Florida Carry, Inc. has won a major legal battle against the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) over undue delays in gun purchases. The First District Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Florida Carry in the case Pretzer v. FDLE, addressing the issue of the FDLE’s “decision-pending response” which left law-abiding Floridians waiting months for firearm purchase approvals.
