A federal judge in Illinois struck down a section of the state’s concealed carry law that barred permit holders from carrying firearms on public transportation.

U.S. District Judge Iain Johnston ruled that the state failed to prove any historical precedent for such a restriction, reinforcing the constitutional right to self-defense. The decision, stemming from a 2022 lawsuit by four concealed carry license holders, could broaden protections for all permit holders using public transit in Illinois.

This ruling emphasizes the importance of upholding gun rights, especially as crime on Chicago’s CTA continues to rise.
