Louisiana’s new permitless concealed carry law, set to take effect on July 4th, marks a significant win for gun rights advocates and Second Amendment supporters. This legislation, seen as a crucial step for enhancing self-protection amidst rising crime rates, reinforces the right to bear arms without governmental barriers.

The law allows law-abiding adults 18 and older to carry concealed firearms without permits or mandatory training. Republican state Sen. Blake Miguez, who authored the law, emphasized its importance, stating, “This Fourth of July, we celebrate not only the birth of our great nation but also a pivotal moment in Louisiana’s history — the enactment of Constitutional Carry legislation.” He added, “We are merely offering law-abiding citizens safety to exercise their self-defense rights without a fee or other governmental barriers.”

The Louisiana State Police website offers resources for those interested in gun education classes, promoting responsible gun ownership even without statutory training requirements.

The CA Excise Tax is Now In Effect

As of July 1, 2024, California has implemented an 11% excise tax on firearms, parts, and ammunition sales, in addition to the existing 6% sales tax. This presents a significant challenge for California FFLs, who must now manage complex quarterly state payments.

The good news is that Trident1’s advanced POS system is ready to help. Our updated software automates tax calculations and generates detailed reports, ensuring smooth compliance with these new regulations.
