The NRA has taken its fight for free speech to the U.S. Supreme Court, challenging actions by New York State officials aimed at stifling the organization’s advocacy for gun rights.

The case, NRA v. Maria T. Vullo, centers on allegations that New York’s Department of Financial Services, under Vullo’s direction, coerced financial institutions to sever ties with the NRA, effectively suppressing the NRA’s ability to promote gun ownership and Second Amendment rights.

This coercion, argued by ACLU’s National Legal Director David Cole, represents a clear violation of the First Amendment, as it targets the NRA’s advocacy and communication.

The Supreme Court’s decision in this case could have profound implications for free speech and the rights of advocacy organizations to operate without fear of government retaliation.
